Invent Penn State backs TEAMology with $75,000 award from Fund for Innovation

While obtaining her master of education in Penn State’s counselor education program in 2006, Linsey Covert, now an instructor in the Penn State College of Education, developed a framework for a K-8 school-wide program to reduce bullying through team-building, leadership development and peer intervention. The program, called Project TEAM, nurtures interconnected life skills like resiliency and leadership that motivate kids to succeed.

Penn State Shenango’s VenturePointe, an incubator for start-up resources for both for-profit businesses and not-for-profit agencies, supported its first internship this past spring to immerse a Shenango campus student into the entrepreneurial incubation process at the eCenter@LindenPointe in Hermitage, Pennsylvania.

Inaugural Student Pitch Day attracts diverse entrepreneurial participants

From game-based e-learning courses to handcrafted outdoor tools to portable devices protecting ATM PIN numbers, Penn State Great Valley’s first-ever Student Pitch Day drew a wide variety of student entrepreneurs. Each shared their ideas with faculty and area professionals and competed for cash prizes.

Happy Valley LaunchBox graduated six startups from its business startup accelerator program on April 26 at its space in downtown State College. The graduates join 25 other companies that have gone through the accelerator since Happy Valley LaunchBox opened in February 2016.

An enthusiastic group of about 75 community leaders; city and county officials; Penn State Berks faculty, staff and students; and Penn State Health St. Joseph physicians and administrators, participated in a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the Langan LaunchBox, a signature social entrepreneurship and business accelerator program established with a $50,000 grant from the Invent Penn State Initiative.
