Students from around the world participate in a virtual version of HackPSU

The COVID-19 pandemic did not stop 644 students from around the world from participating in a virtual version of HackPSU. The 48-hour hackathon was held entirely online for 45 teams of students, some as close as University Park and others as far as West Bengal, India. One of the winning teams of a sponsor challenge competed in the Nittany AI Mini Challenge, facilitated by the Nittany AI Alliance—a service of Penn State Outreach—where they were charged with creating a solution using artificial intelligence for good in the areas of education, environment, health and/or humanitarianism.

Bob and Susan Bardusch have made a gift to establish the Bardusch Family IdeaMakers Challenge Endowment at the College of Information Sciences and Technology. The endowment will support the IdeaMakers Challenge, an annual entrepreneurial pitch competition held annually as part of Penn State Startup Week powered by PNC and sponsored by IST.

Merck chairman, CEO Kenneth Frazier to give keynote at Venture & IP Conference

Kenneth Frazier, chairman and CEO of global biopharmaceutical company Merck, will be the keynote speaker and honorary co-chair for the 2021 Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference, which takes place April 15-16. Frazier’s keynote will be a virtual fireside chat with Penn State President Eric Barron at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 16.

Penn State Schuylkill announces fifth annual Business Plan Competition

Penn State Schuylkill will host its fifth annual Business Plan Competition virtually at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 22. Aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners who live, work, volunteer, or go to school in Schuylkill County are encouraged to apply by Friday, April 2, for their chance to secure up to $5,000 in funding.
