State College has a long history of being rated as one of the best communities in America. In 1988 Psychology Today magazine called State College the least stressed place in the country. In 2011 National Geographic named State College an “Adventure Town” owing to the variety of activities locals have access to. In 2017 State College was named the second best city in america for tech startups without the downsides of Silicon Valley.
