Third day of Startup Week themed ‘social impact’
University Park, PA – In its seventh year, Penn State Startup Week powered by PNC will now feature uniquely themed days with featured speakers, interactive events, and late-night activities throughout the week. The third day of Startup Week, Wednesday, March 22, is themed Social Impact, with the following highlights:
Featured events:
Restoring Integrity to the Oceans, 9:45 am – 10:45 am: Learn about the social impact of Ocean Integrity, and its business model of empowering local communities to help clean up the world’s oceans.
Art Activism and Social Impact, 11:00 am – Noon: Join art activist and former professional football player Aaron Maybin as he tells the story of his decision to walk away from professional football to pursue a career as a professional artist, activist, author, educator.
OriginLabs Open House, 2 pm – 4 pm: Drop by OriginLabs, the brand-new prototyping and product development facilities located on the first and mezzanine levels of the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub. Swing by for a casual visit on the eve of our “Ribbon Cutting” to chat with technicians, check out equipment, and explore the various lab spaces. Learn how OriginLabs can be a resource for you!
Create an Upcycled Fashion Brand, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Come check out this fun, sustainable, and hands-on-making workshop where Maker Commons staff will challenge groups of students with a design prompt to create a new upcycled t-shirt brand that makes a statement.
Featured pitch competition:
Bardusch IdeaMakers Challenge Pitch Competition, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm: Watch teams of 2-5 undergraduate Penn State students who have an early-stage business idea with information technology as a core business model component compete for prize money.
After-hours event:
Happy Valley Improv Show, 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm: Join 2023 Penn State Startup Week powered by PNC for an after-hours stand-up comedy, networking, and social event.
In addition, the Brazilian Munchies food truck will be parked at the back of the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm each day of Startup Week.
